Advocacy and Creating Change
Members and friends are involved in a wide range of local and national issues. Many are engaged with supporting detainees and their families at the Northwest Detention Center, and others staff a booth at the annual Out in the Park celebration of LGBT Pride. Many engage our local politics by collecting signatures for important citizen initiatives. Watch our announcements for opportunities to get involved these activities.
Racial Justice Working Group
In June 2015, the General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association passed an Action of Immediate Witness supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. In light of that and moved by string of violent incidents over the past few years, a working group formed with the intention of educating, exploring and engaging in matters of racial justice. As a majority white congregation, we seek to understand our own role in oppression and injustice, create opportunities to explore the dynamics of racism, and to partner as we can with the wider community to act. All are welcome to take part in the Working Group and encouraged to participate in their scheduled events.
