The Power of Naming

TRUST
This sermon/meditation will be an exploration of the complexity of ideas surrounding the concept of trust in the world that feels adrift. We will explore some ancient wisdom relating to the appropriate power of human beings, and we will explore the consequences of us humans, intentionally or by abrogation of responsibility, relinquishing responsibility for the power that is rightfully ours.

As we venture into the difficult exploration of trust in a world that seems remarkably unmoored, we will look at elements of philosophy, science, and the literary imagination to explore the limits and potential of human participation in structuring our understandings of truth: If we are at a paradigm shift in our understanding of justice, how do we establish and convey trust.

Additionally, we will consider the implications of strategies needed to establish and maintain trust and how trust coalesces into social forces that can potentially move the needle toward justice.
