In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”
At the request of the Board of Trustees of the Tahoma Unitarian Universalist Congregation (TUUC), the regular (annual) meeting of the congregation has been set for 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 2, 2019, in the sanctuary of the church at 1115 South 56th Street, Tacoma, Washington. The business to be considered at this meeting shall be limited to:
Elections: the President, three Board members, one member of the Nominating Committee, and one member of the Endowment Committee
Financial business: Presentation and adoption of the annual budget (for the operating fund)
Program updates including the music program and social justice work
Article VI of TUUC’s bylaws sets requirements for congregational meetings, including that a notice such as this be made in written form thirty days in advance of the meeting, that the notice shall state the business purpose of the meeting, and that a regular meeting shall be scheduled to occur within 60 days of the end of the fiscal year (June 30).
This article of the bylaws also specifies who may vote at a congregational meeting. For the meeting on June 2, 2019, members eligible to vote will be those (1) whose membership began on or prior to May 3, 2019 and (2) who have made an identifiable financial contribution to TUUC this fiscal year (which began July 1, 2018) or whose responsibility to make such a contribution has been waived this fiscal year.
