In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”
Save November 17 after the worship service to hear from Jo Anne Geron, a member of our congregation and on the Board of AIDNW. Jo Anne will share information about how to be involved in supporting immigrants and refugees who are being held in detention in Tacoma. If you want to connect and offer your time, this is your chance to learn.
Nancy Slocum, Director of Religious Exploration for Children and Youth leads, “Parents as Religious Educators”, an informal, drop-in discussion group for any parents (or anyone in a parenting role with children) who want to explore what it means to be the primary religious educator in your child’s life. While the church provides a focused opportunity for your child to explore religion and faith, the reality is that our children are learning about these things day in and day out. Parents and other adults who spend time with kids are in a position to educate and model but sometimes do so without giving it much attention. This group will provide an opportunity to accept this role with thoughtfulness and intention. Topics for discussion will be generated by the group, but may include developmental stages of faith formation, developing your in-home “curriculum,” how to answer the “tough” questions, rituals and celebrations, etc. We will meet monthly after services from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.
