Goodies from the May 3 Worship Service

Our Sunday service, Rev Linda reflected on the 50th anniversary of the shootings at Kent State University starting with words by Rev. Barbara Child.  Rev. Child was an English professor at Kent State that year and was on the Commons when the shots rang out.  The text of Rev Linda’s homily is here.  If you want to read more from Rev. Child, some of her remarks can be found here.

We sang songs from our hymnal that were recorded by the Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church.  It was like having a dance party!  Here’s “This Little Light of Mine” and “Come and Go With Me”  for your listening pleasure.  Check out their other songs from our hymnal, too.

The meditation was the poem “The Path” by Jack Hirschman, and was used in the sermon that Rev. Child gave at the Kent UU Church on Sunday morning, too.

Rev. Linda also quoted from Denise Levertov’s poem “Talking to Oneself”.  You can tell it is a favorite poem.

At the end of the service, we included music by UU singer/songwriter, Hal Walker.  His music has been an inspiration to our ministerial intern, Erien Babcock, and we use it with his permission.  Click on the link to hear more of his music.
