The phrase Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler can be anything from a seasonal mentality to a way of life in the Big Easy. When a friend mentioned that the University Medical Center of New Orleans had a mid-year opening for their chaplain residency, I jumped at the opportunity. But as a safety net hospital with resources found in few places throughout the Gulf Coast region, the times we roll with can range well-beyond “good.”
Jake (Métis/Sámi) Hearen grew up in Austin, TX before moving away for college and military service. He transitioned from the Regular Army into the Army Reserve’s Chaplain Candidate Program with TUUC’s support and the UUA’s approval. After his chaplain residency at University Medical Center of New Orleans, he will be the intern minister for both Throop UU Congregation and UUs of Santa Clarita Valley.
This Sunday we will have a multi-platform service. A limited number of people can register to attend in person, OR folks can still attend via our online Zoom option. Those attending in-person will follow our in-person gathering guidelines including wearing high-quality face masks. Registration is required, so that we can manage the number of people in the sanctuary and follow our gathering guidelines. Children are welcome with their parents in the sanctuary. A small creativity and play area is provided for very young children inside the sanctuary. Currently no separate in-person classroom space, this includes no separate programs for children or separate nursery care area.
