Sitting on the Steps

This sermon reflects on three important aspects of a relationship that can help someone transform their life – control, respect, and trust. While they are directly applicable when you are sitting on the steps with someone who doesn’t have a home, they also apply when you are sitting on the steps with your best friend.

Rev. Anderson is a retired Unitarian Universalist Community Minister affiliated with TUUC. For 47 years he worked with people struggling with mental health issues, chemical dependency, family violence, child abuse and neglect and unemployment. He also provided mediation and conflict consultation to churches and non-profit agencies. And he facilitated cultural diversity trainings for non-profits and City of Tacoma employees.  For his last 12 years of work at Catholic Community Services, he directed shelters and meal sites for adults experiencing homelessness. He now does the rare sermon, spends time with his family, and does wood and metal sculpture and painting.
