AIDNW Sack Lunch Collection Drive

AIDNW Sack Lunch Collection Drive

AIDNW (Advocates for Immigrants in Detention NW) supports immigrant detainees and welcomes them on their release from the NW ICE Processing Center located in Tacoma. AIDNW needs sack lunches to give to the detainees leaving the ICE facility. The released detainees are usually going directly to a bus, train, or plane. These sack lunches (filled with nonperishable, airplane compliant food) will help make their journeys easier.

The Social Justice Committee is coordinating collections during the month of February. We are taking this ACTION after reading and discussing the book Children of the Land by Marcelo Hernandez Castillo. At the end of February, we’ll assemble the sack lunches and deliver them to the AIDNW Welcome Center. Our goal is 100 sack lunches.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Purchase items from Amazon at AIDNW Sack Lunch Wish List. These items will be shipped directly to a central location, so you can do your purchasing from the convenience of your home.
  • Purchase items from the vendor of your choice – arrange delivery by emailing the Social Justice Committee at SJCTahomaUU@gmail.com or contact Laura Gardner. Visit the AIDNW Sack Lunch Wish List to see examples of the items needed: INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED protein or granola bars, nuts, jerky, peanut butter crackers, and dried fruit. If the church building reopens for worship services during February, we will have a collection box in the sanctuary.

The deadline for donating items is Friday, February 25. If the church building is open, the sack lunches will be assembled on Sunday, February 27 after Sunday worship service.

Thank you for supporting AIDNW and immigrant detainees.
