Let’s get really moving on this big project! Sunday, February 25th, Religious Exploration Families will be hosting a Take-Apart Party after worship service to clear the way to build our new RE Outdoor Classroom. This wonderful project has the full support of the Board of Trustees and has been fully funded through the generosity of the congregation via last year’s auction. Now we need able hands to get the work done. At the Take-Apart Party, we will be removing fencing, raised beds, etc., sorting re-usable materials out, and taking loads to the dump. We particularly need volunteers with open bed trucks or trailers as well as those who are willing to get their hands dirty throughout the stages of this project. We will also be looking for re-use/recycling opportunities for the six-foot chain link fence, soil (gardening quality), wood, and various concrete blocks. After the space is cleared, the next step is to build small retaining walls with concrete blocks and a three-foot fence. We are looking for volunteers with these skills. or the willingness to learn them. Please contact Christine Chansley if you can help with any of the specific requests and/or to be added to an e-mail list for specific communications.

Our Vision: To create a multi-functional outdoor “classroom” that facilitates connection with nature. Using the space in the corner of the parking lot, build permanent retaining walls and planting beds along the property line, level the existing space to support a picnic table, build a 3-foot fence with gate to enclose the space, plant beds with low-maintenance perennial plants while leaving opportunities for hands-on projects, with design eye-appealing infrastructure and design for minimal maintenance needs.
