TUUC’s participation in the Tacoma/Pierce County Safe Parking program is dependent on your willingness to volunteer as site visitors. Without enough volunteers we cannot sustain two people visiting once a day to keep the parking lot and grounds tidy and free of trash, check on the condition of the porta-potty and the handwashing station, and resupply soap, water and toilet paper. This takes about 30 minutes and makes a difference to our guests and the neighborhood. We visit in pairs in either the morning or early evening during daylight hours.
We need a few more compassionate folks who are willing to put boots on the ground for our guests. The City of Tacoma considers Safe Parking to be an essential part of the effort to provide safe and sanitary living conditions for the unhoused. Please consider supporting this TUUC program.
We also need volunteers to help tidy up the planted beds on TUUC property on Saturday, October 2. Now that we have had rain we can actually pull weeds! Goals for the day:
- Cut back the irises
- Trim shrubbery
- Pull weeds
- Mow the parking lot
- Tidy and trim in the picnic area
Dave and Cindy Hackett will be outside at the church from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. Coffee will be available (bring your own mug and add-ins). Bring hedge trimmers, weeders, clippers, spades, and whatever else you might need for a few hours of yard cleanup. Hope to see you there, but if you can’t come this time, we’ll be providing more opportunities!
