Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

Join us for 30 minutes of sitting or walking meditation in the sanctuary. Each week we have a topic for discussion related to meditating as a way to expand our knowledge and connect with one another. This group is for everyone, whether you meditate frequently, occasionally, or are coming for your first meditation sit. The group is also open to any ideas or topics anyone may wish to share. Alexa and Steve Arnold facilitate the group.

Following worship services on second Sundays, join a Chalice Circle open to anyone who would like to attend. The group will begin with any thoughts/reflections/comments about the morning service as a way to get centered, and then focus on the month's Chalice Circle theme and sharing. Doug Taylor facilitates this monthly open Chalice Circle.

Chalice Camp Creators Needed
For many years, TUUC offered Chalice Camp to elementary school-aged children a week each summer. It was a day camp experience and served as a great way for the children of the church to explore UU principles & values and to connect with each other.
We have not had Chalice Camp for a couple of years now and would love to bring it back. A recent article in the Winter 2018 UU World magazine called a week of Chalice Camp “better than Sunday school.” While Sunday programming occurs for about an hour a week, Chalice Camp brings children together for a larger block of time and allows us to really dive in to the programming. We are also interested in exploring the option of extending the camp beyond just elementary school-aged kids, and offering a program for middle school, and, perhaps, even high school youth.
A committee is forming to talk about ideas for Chalice Camp 2019. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School room. If you are interested in participating in the conversation, please join us. If you are unable to make this meeting, let Nancy Slocum, Director of Religious Exploration know at Dir.RE@TahomaUU.com, so you can be included in further communication.

The Music Committee continues to plot and plan for more music in our worship. To help us, fill out this brief survey to let us know what you can contribute. Do you sing? Play an instrument? Want to be part of a pick-up choir? Tell us your ideas! Find the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BH2XW5P
Our next meeting is Saturday, January 19 at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome to come and take part in making more music! Questions? Contact Rev. Linda.

These potluck dining experiences are held several times a year in volunteer host homes. Our next one is Saturday, January 26, 2019. Our Get Acquainted Dinners are usually for 6 or 8, held on the same evening at various member’s homes. The host provides a main dish and coordinates side dishes, salads, or desserts provided by the guests. Look for more information in January about registering in-person following worship services in January. Once the lists of guests and hosts are coordinated, the hosts will contact you with details.

The next Collaboration Gathering will be on January 26 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. In addition to checking in about what’s going on around the congregation, we’ll begin talking about what social justice project we might develop using the funds raised by the Auction Paddle Raise. Come along and get involved!

Frances Buckmaster and Patty McPhee invite you to a meeting to discuss a new covenant group for artists and -- yes! -- that means all who would-like-to-be-artists-but-think-they-can’t-be! They promise you that if you can steer a car down a road, get a fork to your mouth, or take a sip of coffee from a cup that you can learn to draw! You will quickly discover that drawing is simply learning to see accurately, making use of your hand-eye coordination and practicing (a lot) using the sort of tools artists use. All of this is, of course, challenging while also great fun to do, especially in a setting with no criticism, no grades, and lots of support!
Interested? Please add your name to the list of interested people with Susie Maharry, Director of Adult Religious Education, at Dir.ARE@TahomaUU.com or at the ARE table by the sanctuary doors on Sunday morning.
Bring a sandwich and beverage for your lunch on Sunday, January 27, 2019 to enjoy during our meeting at 12:30 p.m.
The agenda for our initial gathering on Sunday, January 27 will be:
meet each other and see how many folks are interested in joining the group;
define what a Covenant Group is and explore what it can be;
choose a “best” monthly meeting date and time;
choose a meeting location;
talk about art supplies;
and answer everyone’s questions.
Our first regular meeting will be in February, when we’ll begin learning, practicing, building skills, and taking on some stretch goals together.

Join us for our Last Tuesday Dinner Group at a different area restaurant each month on the last Tuesday evening. These meals are casual, come-as-you-please gatherings. It's a wonderful way to get to know fellow members of the congregation, and you may individually order from the restaurant's menu. The restaurant will be announced as we approach the last Tuesday. Come, relax, eat, and join in the conversations.
