UU Freethinking Mystics
Sunday, August 29, 2021, 9:00 a.m. Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85962558550?pwd=TGk2dnNQVWxyL3oxS1gyOFdOVWdvQT09
Meeting ID: 859 6255 8550
Passcode: 253 Meet with facilitator, Doug Taylor, to touch base, and share thoughts about what we might want to explore this coming new church year.
There will be a second series of podcasts regarding bias hosted by the Center for Action and Contemplation which we may want to continue exploring and/or perhaps someone has come across a good book related to spirituality, mysticism, brain science, and/or well-being that we could consider for using as a resource text.
We might also explore the best day and times for the group to meet for the majority of people interested in meeting via zoom given the current COVID data.
Since we were last exploring biases with the “Learning How to See” podcasts, here’s an article which may be of interest concerning “proximity bias” from the BBC. It sounds so parallel to the the neuroscience adage of “neurons that fire together, wire together,” maybe “people who work together in proximity, wire together” as well, which might be going on in “group think?” Hybrid work: How ‘proximity bias’ can lead to favouritism
In this sermon, Lauren explores white privilege, colonial capitalism, and the moral urgency to resist with Love, Compassion and Honesty. Through personal stories, Indigenous wisdom, prophetic voices, and spiritual reflection, she calls the congregation toward deeper awareness, solidarity, and shared commitment to justice grounded in love.
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”
