What Gets Us Through

May 4th is the 50th anniversary of the shooting at Kent State University. Four students were killed by members of the National Guard. As we make our way through the time of pandemic, it may help to look at what we have done in the past to create meaning in the midst of hard times. A reflection from Rev. Barbara Childs who was there that day and who has returned every year will invite us into a reflection on meaning making by Rev. Linda.

Singing for Our Lives

Join Rev. Linda and Emma’s Revolution for a Sunday of singing and dancing spirits. Music can give voice to feelings that are hard to express otherwise. Let’s join together (virtually, of course) to reflect, sing, laugh, and dance.

Grief and Hope – Online Worship Service

Easter is a holiday that celebrates the victory of life over death. Often UUs trumpet Easter’s hope without the grief of Good Friday. Our service will invite reflection on both in the time of the virus.

You can also listen on your phone by dialing 253-215-8782 to hear the worship service.

Mothers to All – Online Worship Service

Sometimes it takes a community and mothers of the world to care for all children. In times of hardship, this is still important. Ministerial Intern Erien Babcok will share a homily about mothers to all.

Abundant and Generous: Agape Love – Online Worship Service

The Greeks had multiple words for love. In this service we’ll think about Agape, which is considered the highest form of love, and is sometimes called “Charity”. This is love as an action, the sort of unconditional, selfless love that builds community, sustains revolutions, and changes the world. As we kick off the annual Stewardship campaign, let us gather together to share in communal joy as we consider the power in allowing ourselves to be abundantly and generously overwhelmed by love.

We will be joined for this service by Rev. Jessica Star Rockers of Kitsap UU Fellowship and Rev. Zacharie Vinczen of Cedars UU Church. Both of those congregations will join us online. This is a great opportunity for us to join our communities together to reflect upon love and our wider community.

Pluck of the Irish

As we celebrate all things Irish in the month of March, join us to explore the traditions of early Irish faith practices.

This service will be the first of three sermons by Erien in collaboration with congregants who “won” our FUNdraiser silent auction opportunity to work on a sermon topic with our Ministerial Intern. Luck of the Irish? Join us to learn more!

The Wisdom to Know the Difference

This phrase is part of the Serenity Prayer written by Reinhold Niebuhr, a conservative theologian from the mid-20th century. Niebuhr was a balance to the optimism in liberal theology back then, worried about how human beings can be led astray. His reflections may be helpful for us in these difficult times. What wisdom do we need?

Brittany Henderson will provide music for this worship service. Brittany recently played the lead role of Laura in “Beehive” at the Tacoma Musical Playhouse, and has appeared in several other local productions. She has a BA in Theatre Arts from University of Puget Sound, and is Dean of Student Affairs at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.
