Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?

In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

Parent Drop-In Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. Parenting and caring for children always presents challenges and it is even more complex as we live through these days of the pandemic. Come, take a break, and connect with other parents (or anyone raising/living with a child) from TUUC. Share strategies for coping, provide support to one another, and sometimes, just have a good laugh. This is an informal group with no agenda other than to be here for each other. The room is open from 7:00 until 8:00. Busy lives mean you can’t always be there right at the start and that is okay. Pop in late if that is what works for you. We come to this safe, caring, authentic, compassionate group for inspiration, to study, and to explore our direct experience of the fullness and mystery of life. The group is facilitated by Doug Taylor.   This year the group is using the book, Radical Compassion: Learning to Love Yourself and Your World with the Practice of RAIN by Tara Brach. In this heartfelt and deeply practical book, she offers an antidote: an easy-to-learn four-step meditation that quickly loosens the grip of difficult emotions and limiting beliefs. Each step in the meditation practice (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is brought to life by memorable stories shared by Tara and her students as they deal with feelings of overwhelm, loss, and self-aversion, with painful relationships, and past trauma--and as they discover step-by-step the sources of love, forgiveness, compassion, and deep wisdom alive within all of us.

Tea Time on Zoom with Rev. Linda Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Zoom Meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84959104932?pwd=RzB5TlVuMUh1ak0xM0o1K25vajlGQT09 Meeting ID: 849 5910 4932 Password: 1000 Or by phone: 253 215 8782 On Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Linda will be on Zoom with a cup of tea and available for conversation and checking in. Any and everyone is welcome to come along for casual conversation. She'll have a question of the day (for example, "Where did you find joy in the last week?"), but any and everyone can check in and chat as they are most comfortable. Participants are encouraged to arrive a few minutes before the meeting start time, so attendees can be invited into the Zoom room. Once the gathering circle has been created for tea time, the Zoom “door” will be closed, and late attendees will not be able to enter. Your timely login allows us the opportunity to create a space for interested participants, and publicly offer this invitation, as well as alleviate concerns about potential mischievous Zoombombers.
