Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

The deep dives support and reinforce Chalice Circle participation, and are open to all adult members and friends, whether or not you participate as a Chalice Circle member. No prior reading or preparation is required.
Rev. Linda Hart and Doug Taylor co-lead this monthly exploration.

Join us for 30 minutes of sitting or walking meditation in the sanctuary. Each week we have a topic for discussion related to meditating as a way to expand our knowledge and connect with one another. This group is for everyone, whether you meditate frequently, occasionally, or are coming for your first meditation sit. The group is also open to any ideas or topics anyone may wish to share. Alexa and Steve Arnold facilitate the group.

Join us for our Last Tuesday Dinner Group at a different area restaurant each month on the last Tuesday evening. These meals are casual, come-as-you-please gatherings. It's a wonderful way to get to know fellow members of the congregation, and you may individually order from the restaurant's menu. The restaurant will be announced as we approach the last Tuesday. Come, relax, eat, and join in the conversations.

Explore how you feel and think within white supremacy culture, and expand your ability to sit with discomfort as you courageously dive into this vulnerable space with activist facilitators, Aaron Johnson and Porsha Beed, the founders of Holistic Resistance.
Participants are guided through story and questions alongside other white-identified people to answer the question "What keeps white people from deeply connecting with Black people?" and “How are connection and relationship with each other critical pieces of undoing oppression?”
Date: Saturday November 16, 2019, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., with optional extra processing from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. For detailed info, what to bring, and to RSVP, please see the Facebook event page: https://bit.ly/2nTGuuZ or sign up at TUUC after Sunday services.
Participant fee is $200-$75 (No one turned away for lack of funds).
This workshop is for white people to process racism with Black facilitators - if you are a person of color and are interested in connecting with Aaron and Porsha about this work, or have questions about whether this workshop is for you, please ask V.Carhart for Aaron’s contact information.

12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Nancy Slocum, Director of Religious Exploration for Children and Youth leads, "Parents as Religious Educators", an informal, drop-in discussion group for any parents (or anyone in a parenting role with children) who want to explore what it means to be the primary religious educator in your child's life. While the church provides a focused opportunity for your child to explore religion and faith, the reality is that our children are learning about these things day in and day out. Parents and other adults who spend time with kids are in a position to educate and model but sometimes do so without giving it much attention. This group will provide an opportunity to accept this role with thoughtfulness and intention. Topics for discussion will be generated by the group, but may include developmental stages of faith formation, developing your in-home "curriculum," how to answer the "tough" questions, rituals and celebrations, etc. We will meet monthly after services from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Dates are:
Sunday, October 13, 2019
Sunday, November 17, 2019
Sunday, December 8, 2019
Sunday, January 12, 2019
Sunday, February 9, 2019
Sunday, March 8, 2019
Sunday, April 19, 2019
Childcare and lunch will be provided.

Along with your delicious potluck food, bring your gratitude poetry, stories, and music to share as we prepare for our bountiful potluck feast! Doug Taylor will facilitate our sharing of prose in spirit of thanksgiving.
This will be a true potluck gathering. So we can focus on our time together, and to ensure a balanced feast, please signup on the sheet on the programs table outside the sanctuary to share your name and the delicious food you’ll bring. Finger foods are welcome. We'll need main dishes, side dishes of
vegetables and salads, along with bread, and, of course, dessert.
Plan to arrive at noon with your dish or dishes and we'll setup for our shared potluck meal.
After we've shared our feast, and then cleanup, we'll have an afternoon of games. Cat Bilnoski will ensure that folks have places to setup their games in our social hall or classrooms, and will coordinate closing the church at the end of the last game.
