Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

Take a deep dive into our Soul Matters theme of the month every fourth Sunday following worship service from September to May. Using a different format than our Chalice Circles, experience a new theme each month in community with others. The deep dives support and reinforce Chalice Circle participation, and are open to all adult members and friends, whether or not you participate as a Chalice Circle member. No prior reading or preparation is required.
Rev. Linda Hart and Doug Taylor co-lead this monthly exploration.
Questions? Contact one of the facilitators or email Admin@TahomaUU.com. Copies of the materials on the monthly theme are available on the Programs table by the door to the sanctuary. Our themes for this year are:
October - Belonging
November - Attention
December - Awe
January - Integrity
February - Wisdom
March - Liberation
April - Wholeness
May - Thresholds

Join us for 30 minutes of sitting or walking meditation in the sanctuary. Each week we have a topic for discussion related to meditating as a way to expand our knowledge and connect with one another. This group is for everyone, whether you meditate frequently, occasionally, or are coming for your first meditation sit. The group is also open to any ideas or topics anyone may wish to share. Alexa and Steve Arnold facilitate the group.

Join us for our Last Tuesday Dinner Group at a different area restaurant each month on the last Tuesday evening. These meals are casual, come-as-you-please gatherings. It's a wonderful way to get to know fellow members of the congregation, and you may individually order from the restaurant's menu. The restaurant will be announced as we approach the last Tuesday. Come, relax, eat, and join in the conversations.

Following worship services on second Sundays, join a Chalice Circle open to anyone who would like to attend. The group will begin with any thoughts/reflections/comments about the morning service as a way to get centered, and then focus on the month’s Chalice Circle theme and sharing. Doug Taylor facilitates this monthly open Chalice Circle.

Nancy Slocum, Director of Religious Exploration for Children and Youth leads, "Parents as Religious Educators", an informal, drop-in discussion group for any parents (or anyone in a parenting role with children) who want to explore what it means to be the primary religious educator in your child's life. While the church provides a focused opportunity for your child to explore religion and faith, the reality is that our children are learning about these things day in and day out. Parents and other adults who spend time with kids are in a position to educate and model but sometimes do so without giving it much attention. This group will provide an opportunity to accept this role with thoughtfulness and intention. Topics for discussion will be generated by the group, but may include developmental stages of faith formation, developing your in-home "curriculum," how to answer the "tough" questions, rituals and celebrations, etc. We will meet monthly after services from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Childcare and lunch will be provided.

These potluck dining experiences are held several times a year in volunteer host homes and are open to all members and friends of our congregation. Our next one is Saturday, February 29, 2020. Our Get Acquainted Dinners are usually for 6 or 8, held on the same evening at various member’s homes. The host provides a main dish and coordinates side dishes, salads, or desserts provided by the guests. Once the lists of guests and hosts are coordinated, the hosts will contact you with details.

Have you ever thought that you have a sermon in you? Would you like to join with others to learn what it means to explore life experiences and spiritual lessons and then share it with your congregation? Rev. Linda will be leading a course in which you can do just this! Using the book The Shared Pulpit: A Sermon Seminar for Lay People, we’ll gather in person, online over Zoom, and in small groups to create sermons that can be shared. The process requires some reading and time for writing and reflection over two months.
The process includes five meeting times, some onsite and some online:
Saturday, February 29, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon in person onsite at TUUC
Wednesday, March 11, 6:30—8:00 p.m. Zoom online meeting
Wednesday, March 25, 630—8:00 p.m. Zoom online meeting
Wednesday, April 8, 6:30—8:00 p.m. Zoom online meeting
Saturday, April 18, 9:30 a.m.—12:00 noon in person onsite at TUUC
Sign up on Sundays at the Religious Explorations Programs Table or by sending Linda an email at Minister@TahomaUU.com. Questions? Let Linda know!

Spring is in the air!
. . . And it is time to plant! Saturday, February 29 at 12:00 noon we are going to complete the first phase of the landscape revision for the church. Last fall we cleared away overgrown and unhappy plants around our front steps. Come with clothes you can get filthy, a pair of gloves, and a desire to play in the dirt! Contact Thomas Oliver with any questions.
