Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

Join us for 30 minutes of sitting or walking meditation in the sanctuary. Each week we have a topic for discussion related to meditating as a way to expand our knowledge and connect with one another. This group is for everyone, whether you meditate frequently, occasionally, or are coming for your first meditation sit. The group is also open to any ideas or topics anyone may wish to share. Alexa and Steve Arnold facilitate the group.

These potluck dining experiences are held several times a year in volunteer host homes. Our next one is Saturday, April 6, 2019. Our Get Acquainted Dinners are usually for 6 or 8, held on the same evening at various member’s homes. The host provides a main dish and coordinates side dishes, salads, or desserts provided by the guests. Look for more information in March about registering in-person following worship services in March. Once the lists of guests and hosts are coordinated, the hosts will contact you with details.

Why do some people do selfless things, helping others even at risk to their own well-being, such as in emergency situations on I-5 or donating a kidney to a complete stranger? At the other extreme, why are psychopaths the way they are? Are their brains just different? Two fascinating works by Abigail Marsh, a Professor of Psychology at Georgetown University, are presented by her mother, Tahoma UU member, Margot Marsh. Besides a TED Talk, Margot dives into her daughter's groundbreaking book, The Fear Factor: How One Emotion Connects Altruists, Psychopaths, and Everyone In-Between.
