Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

Join us for 30 minutes of sitting or walking meditation in the sanctuary. Each week we have a topic for discussion related to meditating as a way to expand our knowledge and connect with one another. This group is for everyone, whether you meditate frequently, occasionally, or are coming for your first meditation sit. The group is also open to any ideas or topics anyone may wish to share. Alexa and Steve Arnold facilitate the group.

Summer “Forest Bathing” anyone?!
Join TUUC Adult Spiritual Explorers for a unique experiential “Introduction to Forest Bathing” at Point Defiance Park! Forest bathing (or shinrin-yoku) has been popular in Japan for decades and is gaining momentum in the US. The practice invites you to fully experience the peaceful, healing, restorative beauty of nature with all of your senses attuned to the present moment. Multiple scientific studies have shown that it lowers stress and blood pressure levels, while increasing immune system functioning, making you more resilient to diseases and illness.
With caring, gentle guidance, and invitation, you will have the opportunity to meditate, walk slowly, pause, contemplate and reflect, and share your experience of mindfully enjoying the Japanese Garden.
Come experience nature in full awe, wonder, and beauty from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, which gives us plenty of time to get to TUUC for Sunday, July 21 worship service on “Growing Into Harmony.” We will meet at the Japanese Garden Pagoda beginning at 7:45 a.m. and begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets and snacks/drinks if they wish.
For more info, contact Doug Taylor, or email Admin@TahomaUU.com. Also see the recent The Guardian article: "Getting back to nature: how forest bathing can make us feel better."

Sandwich making at the church begins at 5:30 p.m. Participants often donate sandwich makings and fruit. After sandwich assembly, some of the group distribute the sandwiches and fruit at the Rescue Mission from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Our partners with this project are the West End Kiwanis, Temple Beth El, and Wilson High School Key Club.
