Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?
In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

We are members and friends of Unitarian Universalism walking the path of spiritual experience and growth as it unfolds in our lives. We come to this safe, caring, authentic, compassionate group for inspiration, to study, and to explore our direct experience of the fullness and mystery of life.
The group is facilitated by Doug Taylor.
This year the group is using the book, Radical Compassion: Learning to Love Yourself and Your World with the Practice of RAIN by Tara Brach.
In this heartfelt and deeply practical book, she offers an antidote: an easy-to-learn four-step meditation that quickly loosens the grip of difficult emotions and limiting beliefs. Each step in the meditation practice (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is brought to life by memorable stories shared by Tara and her students as they deal with feelings of overwhelm, loss, and self-aversion, with painful relationships, and past trauma--and as they discover step-by-step the sources of love, forgiveness, compassion, and deep wisdom alive within all of us.

Book Discussion: “Raising White Kids: Bringing Up Children in a Racially Unjust America” by Jennifer Harvey
From the author’s website: “This is a book for families and communities committed to equity and justice who want to equip children to be able participants in a society that is simultaneously deeply diverse and profoundly unjust”
Navigating conversations with our white children around issues of race and white privilege can be challenging. How do we talk about the issues openly and constructively without overly burdening our children with guilt or sadness? Come join us in a discussion, facilitated by Nancy Slocum, about how we can speak openly and honestly about these issues with our children and support each other to take on this important parenting role.
The book is widely available. If you need assistance to obtain a copy, contact Nancy at Dir.RE@TahomaUU.com and she will arrange to have a copy sent to you.
Registration is required.
