Paying Attention: What is in Your Cup?

In a wisdom tale, Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh tells us the bump in the road doesn’t create what spills out of the cup we are carrying. Instead it reveals what is already inside. The question is not about who bumps us rather, “What am I carrying in my cup?”

An integral part of our annual Holiday Pageant has been the singing of the 12 Days of Christmas (with full congregational participation). We want to create a video featuring congregants of all ages to be shown during the Worship Service on Sunday, December 20 so we can all sing along. The recording will be made on Sunday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom. Sign up to participate in the recording. No singing is required! We will be recording people’s actions, not voices. ALL AGES and ABILITIES are welcome! More than one person can participate from a household (or computer screen) just be sure to register for a slot for each person in the sign-up. Click here to sign up and receive more information. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Slocum, Director of Religious Exploration, at DIR.RE@Tahoma UU.com.

We come to this safe, caring, authentic, compassionate group for inspiration, to study, and to explore our direct experience of the fullness and mystery of life. The group is facilitated by Doug Taylor.   This year the group is using the book, Radical Compassion: Learning to Love Yourself and Your World with the Practice of RAIN by Tara Brach. In this heartfelt and deeply practical book, she offers an antidote: an easy-to-learn four-step meditation that quickly loosens the grip of difficult emotions and limiting beliefs. Each step in the meditation practice (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is brought to life by memorable stories shared by Tara and her students as they deal with feelings of overwhelm, loss, and self-aversion, with painful relationships, and past trauma--and as they discover step-by-step the sources of love, forgiveness, compassion, and deep wisdom alive within all of us.

Parent Drop-In Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. Parenting and caring for children always presents challenges and it is even more complex as we live through these days of the pandemic. Come, take a break, and connect with other parents (or anyone raising/living with a child) from TUUC. Share strategies for coping, provide support to one another, and sometimes, just have a good laugh. This is an informal group with no agenda other than to be here for each other. The room is open from 7:00 until 8:00. Busy lives mean you can’t always be there right at the start and that is okay. Pop in late if that is what works for you.
